CSRT Awards Program
CSRT Student Achievement Awards – Gold – Silver - Bronze
These awards recognize achievements of CSRT student members. To be eligible, students have to be a CSRT student member, be a graduate for a Canadian accredited program, and have made their first successful attempt at the Canadian exam within 18 months of graduation.
The awards are handed out by the President of the CSRT during the President’s banquet at the CSRT Annual Education Conference and Trade Show. The Gold award recipient will receive a $500 cash award. All recipients will receive a certificate of excellence during the President’s banquet. In addition, funding is provided by the CSRT to cover the costs of travel, accommodation, conference registration as well as a ticket to the President’s Banquet.
CSRT/CAREstream Student Excellence Award
The CSRT is proud to partner with CAREstream Medical Ltd., to provide recognition to students in the 20 educational programs across Canada. The goal of this award is to recognize students in each respiratory therapy program (accredited through the Council on Accreditation for Respiratory Therapy Education) who have successfully completed the certification exam and have made a substantial achievement as a student.
The Student selected from each of the eligible programs will receive their award at the President’s Banquet during the CSRT annual Education Conference. The Award consists of:
- A certificate of excellence
- Cash prize in the amount of $500
- CSRT membership dues for one year (April to March)
- Complimentary registration to conference and ticket to the President’s banquet
CAREstream Medical Ltd., is committed to supporting excellence in respiratory care and their support and sponsorship of this award helps to highlight the achievements students who will become leaders in advancing the profession in the future. Selection of winners is made in consultation with each education program.
Colya Kaminiarz Professional Achievement and Education Award

This award is designed to honour Colya Kaminiarz for the significant contributions he made to the profession and the professional association.
This award will be conferred annually to a member of the CSRT who is recognized for his/her leadership skills and who has made a significant contribution to professional practice and/or in the field of education at the national level.
Les Matthews is the recipient of the Colya Kaminiarz Professional Achievement and Education Award for 2009.
The promotion of the profession and recognition of professional achievements are essential elements of a professional association. The CSRT wishes to acknowledge individuals who have inspired others in the respiratory community, promoted the profession or created increased awareness of respiratory therapists.
President’s Award
This award
provides the current CSRT President with a vehicle to recognize an individual or an organization that has provided support to the President in his/her role or has made a significant contribution to the Society during his/her term of office. The CSRT President’s award is presented during the President’s banquet.

Robert Merry Lecturer

This award was established to recognize the important contributions of Robert Merry, one of the pioneers of the RT profession.
The Robert Merry Lecturer will be the focal point of the plenary program at each annual CSRT Education Conference and Trade Show. The recipient is selected by the membership and is honoured with this award because of the recipients’ outstanding contribution and experience. The recipient will deliver his/her keynote lecture at next conference - Quebec City, May 2011.
The 2009 recipient of the Robert Merry Lecturer Award is Phil Richardson, who will give his lecture in St. John’s, Newfoundland in May 2010.
