Categories of Accreditation
The following categories of accreditation are used:
- Accreditation
Accreditation is accorded for six years to an existing program when the accreditation review process verifies that the program is in conformity with all the critical components of the requirements.
- Accreditation with Progress Report
Programs may be required to submit one or more progress reports to CoARTE to address recommendations in the Program Review Report, or at other times deemed necessary to assure continuing conformity with the requirements. Failure to submit a satisfactory progress report is grounds for probationary accreditation.
- New program accreditation
New program accreditation is accorded to new programs that demonstrate conformity with the critical components of the requirements, but have yet to have any graduates.
- Probationary accreditation
Probationary accreditation is accorded when deficiencies are so serious that the capability of the program to provide acceptable education is threatened. Alternatively it occurs when a program does not submit a satisfactory progress report of satisfactory Annual Report of Current Status.
- Administrative probationary accreditation
Administrative probationary accreditation may be accorded when the program does not conform to one or more of the following administrative requirements for maintaining accreditation:
- Submit the complete self-study report or a required progress report within a reasonable period of time as determined by CoARTE.
- Submit their annual report with a reasonable period of time as determined by CoARTE.
- Pay accreditation fees within a reasonable time as determined by CoARTE.
- Accreditation withheld
Accreditation is withheld from new programs when deficiencies are so serious that the capability of the program to provide acceptable education is threatened; and when effective quality management systems are not in place.
- Accreditation withdrawn
Accreditation is withdrawn when a program already on probation has failed to correct deficiencies that have threatened provision of acceptable education.
