Respiratory Therapists Week
October 25 — 30, 2009

Respiratory therapists...dedicated to better breathing

Respiratory Therapy Week October 25-30, 2009 was a very active and productive time for RTs. There were a number of activities organized, nationally and internationally.  The CSRT sent complimentary promotional materials to over 140 sites.

CSRT golf shirts were awarded to our two winning teams. Although there are only eight staff members – the RT team at Cornwall Community Hospital they did a fantastic job targeted local schools. They participated in a series of presentations, to various age groups on the role of a respiratory therapist, how to use an inhaler with an aerochamber, discussed smoke cessation and reminded students about hand-washing routines. They showed the winning Thompson Rivers RT video and students even got the chance to ventilate a mannequin. Their presentation was so successful they have been asked back for next semester.

In Grande Prairie, AB, our second winning RT team set up booths for the week to educate and promote the role of RTs within Peace Country Health-Queen Elizabeth II Hospital.  They involved the staff, nursing students and the public in a game of RT Jeopardy. Everyone learned a little more about the profession and had some fun doing it.
