CSRT Annual General Meeting

The CSRT Annual General Business Meeting will take place, Friday, June 10, 2011 at the Quebec City Convention Centre, Room 200A, 900 Blvd Rene-Levesque E., Quebec City, QC. If you are unable to attend the AGM, you may complete a proxy form and return by mail or fax to the CSRT office by Friday June 3, 2011. Details on motions and proxy form can be found on the CSRT website, in the Members-Only section. Forms can be obtained by calling 800-267-3422.

CSRT  RT: Vent Ratio Survey for Managers and Leaders

The CSRT is requesting the assistance of managers and leaders in respiratory therapy in completing a survey on vent to RT ratio in the intensive care units. The survey is available on the “Survey Monkey” platform until May 15, 2011 at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/XL6NYBK. The survey is specific to the RT profession. The results will provide solid baseline data for the profession that can be used as the basis for the development of position statements and for the implementation of larger interprofessional projects. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes.

CoARTE Update

CoARTE has just finished the accreditation visit at Vanier College, in Montreal, Quebec. CoARTE would like to thank the Respiratory and Anaesthesia Technology program and the senior administration for their excellent cooperation. Members of the  review team were led by team leader Carolyn McCoy, instructor, NBCC, Saint John, NB; Sharon Peters, critical care physician, St. John’s, NL; Michael Bachynsky, RRT, Winnipeg, MB; Jocelyn Forseille, Chair, NAIT, Edmonton, AB; Milena Cotinghi, accreditation manager, CSRT/CoARTE, Ottawa, ON.

iPod Winner for Membership Renewal

Shiyuan Zeng of Markham ON won the iPod for renewing her membership before the April 10th deadline. She has been a member since 2008. Congratulations Shiyuan!

New content on respiratoryresource.ca

Keep informed! There is always something new on the Respiratory Resource section of the CSRT website. Signing up is easy. If you are a CSRT member simply log on to the Members-Only section and go to Respiratory Resource. Create a username and password and you are in! Watch for upcoming complimentary webinars, check out the tutorials, discussion updates and new information on the site. The latest content added to the section includes new guidelines, policies, and presentations in the Critical Care section; and new article links in the Critical Care and Neonatal section. Videos of past Webinars can now be viewed, and comments/discussion can be started for each.

Difficulties With Webinar Reception?
If you are experiencing difficulties connecting to the Respiratory Resource webinar, please contact rhansen@csrt.com  and describe your issues. We are exploring options to identify a cost-effective universal platform.

Some members using the Respiratory Resource site have reported difficulties with the webinars (hosted by Fuze Meeting).  In most cases this can be resolved by using an updated browser, or getting an Adobe Flash update. Some hospitals may be blocking certain internet ports - specifically the IS department. The ports used by Fuze Meeting are common to most Webinar hosting solutions.

The Fuze system requirements are:

  • Operating systems are supported by Fuze Meeting
  • Fuze Meeting is universally compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Mac OS X, SUSE, and Red Hat Linux. Screen sharing is compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Mac OS X Leopard and above (Intel-only).
  • Browsers are supported by Fuze Meeting
  • Fuze Meeting is compatible with most major browsers including Internet Explorer 7 & 8, Firefox 2 & 3, Safari 4 & 5, Google Chrome, and Opera.
  • Ports are used by Fuze Meeting

Fuze Meeting communicates on ports 80 and 443. Please make sure these ports are open in your firewall or you may have trouble starting meetings or using Fuze Messenger.

CSRT Joins  Improving Care Search Centre

The Canadian Patient Safety Institute has launched Improving Care Search Centre - a Google-like search centre which will allow visitors to search for patient safety related content that is generated and shared by all. The CSRT has a vested interest in patient safety and has joined the Improving Care Alliance in order to provide visitors to the Improving Care Search Centre with access to the best information.
