CSRT Conference Highlights
The CSRT annual Education Conference and Trade Show was a huge success with 364 delegates in attendance. The CSRT would like to thank the Newfoundland Host Committee for their tireless efforts in bringing a series of excellent speakers to the conference, providing lots of opportunities to network and showing us the legendary hospitality of St. John’s. This year’s conference introduced a number of new offerings.
Among the new events was the first Annual Run for Research. It was held on Sunday morning, May 16 at 7AM with ten hearty individuals out to run the 2.5km course along the St. John’s waterfront. Allan Shemanko of Alberta won a Walkman MP3 player for raising the most research money. In total $1,038.00 was raised to support respiratory therapists who do research.
To encourage delegate interaction with the many exhibitors who support the conference, exhibitors gave ballots to delegates for a draw. The draw prize was complimentary transportation, accommodation and registration for the CSRT conference in Quebec City - June 9 to12, 2011. The winning name was drawn at the President’s Banquet. Congratulations to Edna Cahill of Newfoundland.
As always, the Airway Olympics Sputum Cup Challenge was very well attended, with special guest, Olympic medal winner for curling at the 2010 Winter Games - Susan O’Connor was in attendance to hand out awards. After lots of fierce competition trying to intubate patients in difficult situations, the winners were finally declared. The team with the fastest time was Joanne Abbott and Mervyn Greenham. A special thank you to Rick Paradis for organizing this very popular event.
CSRT Poster Presentation Winner
Geoff Flannagan of Ontario is the winner of the Poster Presentations at the Conference with his poster entitled “A Collaborative Inter-professional Approach to Reducing Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) in the Critically Ill Child”. All conference abstracts will be featured in full in the Summer issue of the CJRT. Geoff will receive complimentary registration to the 2011 conference in Quebec City.
Please note that conference presentations from speakers who gave permission to share their work will be available on the CSRT website on June 4, 2010.
